PRIVACY POLICY
Introduction
The College of Lactation Consultants Victoria Inc (CLC-VIC) was established in 1995 and provides a supportive and professional association for lactation consultants. It is an independent State organisation which aims to reach out to all those in our community who are interested in breastfeeding. The College is a member of the Network of Australian Lactation Colleges which provides a framework for communication between all states, this includes the Queensland Lactation College, the New South Wales Lactation College, the Tasmanian Lactation College, the South Australia College of Lactation Consultants and the College of Lactation Consultants Western Australia..
CLC-VIC understands members concerns regarding privacy and takes seriously its obligations in respect of all personal details it gathers. CLC-VIC is committed to both its aims and the laws of Australia and to abide by the amended Privacy Act (1988).
Member's Personal Information
Your privacy is important to us. CLC-VIC is committed to ensuring that all personal information is handled in accordance with the amended Privacy Act (1988). CLC-VIC does not give members’ personal information to anyone outside the organisation unless specifically permitted by each member eg referrals and professional contact.
Members’ personal details are collected as per the Rules on the membership form. Details are updated annually and at other times as requested by members.
Personal information is collected from members so that we can:
- Send out our Newsletter
- Send out CLC-VIC AGM & Annual Dinner notice
- Send out call for Committee nominations
- Send out annual renewal notice
- Inform members about our activities: CLC-VIC Link Groups, Annual Conference and information about professional matters and other conferences.
CLC-VIC Members Guide
The Members Guide is sent only to full Members and is not available to associate Members. The information about members is according to each member’s specific instruction and with signed consent.
CLC-VIC Members in Private Lactation Consultant Practice Booklet
This booklet is sent to full Members and selected maternity hospitals and breastfeeding units and a small number of allied organisations. The information about members is according to each member’s specific instructions and with signed consent.

The information about members in private practice on the Network of Australian Lactation Colleges web site www.lactation.org.au/vic/index.html is according to each member’s specific instructions and with signed consent.
The Membership Book is in the safekeeping of the Membership Secretary and is available to any member (only) to peruse, as according to the Rules.
The Membership Database and Hard Copy is kept and updated by the Membership Secretary and the Treasurer. The Committee is provided with up-to-date membership lists for contact purposes.
Educational Activities & Events Mailing Lists
Personal information of non-members is kept for the purpose of mailing information about CLC-VIC’s educational activities, e.g. the Annual Conference brochure and the CLC-VIC Link Group notices. Names of attendees to the conference are sent to the IBLCE (International Board Lactation Consultant Examiners) Regional Office for the purpose of awarding CERPs (Continuing Education Recognition Points). Qualified IBCLC’s (International Board Certified Lactation Consultants) have given permission to the IBLCE Regional Office for this use. Non-IBCLC’s who attend educational activities can request not to be included in the mailing list data base.
Personal information kept is not given to any person or organisation outside CLC-VIC without consent of the members. Personal details are deleted/destroyed as appropriate i.e. the person no longer attends these events, or requests to have their details deleted, or after 4 years of non-participation.
CLC-VIC ‘Link’ Groups Attendance Book
Personal information is for the Link Group Organiser to send out details of education activities and to provide names of attendees to the IBLCE Regional Office for the purpose of awarding CERPs.
Quality & Security of Personal Information
CLC-VIC takes all reasonable steps to ensure that all personal details are accurate. Personal details are stored in both hard copy and on computer. Reasonable steps will be taken that hard copies and computer copies are secure. Members should contact our Membership Secretary at any time to amend any personal details to ensure accuracy is maintained.
Modifications to this Policy
CLC-VIC may modify this Privacy Policy and the way it handles personal details at any time at our discretion. Members will be informed of any changes. Such modifications will be consistent with current privacy legislation.
